Flower Festival

St Cuthbert's Church was filled with stunning displays representing Thetford and celebrating it history and architecture for the church flower festival weekend at the beginning of July.  Local schools joined experienced arrangers to produce a colourful and imaginative result. Comments from visitors showed that they found it "brilliant", "Super", and "outstanding".  Thanks to all who took part including those who worked to provide refreshments through the weekend, organists who provided lovely music and choir who led a lively and rousing Songs of Praise Service to round of the celebrations. A new Church School for Thetford?
Following the decision last year by the County Council to close Abbey Junior and Canterbury Infant Schools plans to replace them with a new church school are well under way. The County Council cabinet has given its provisional approval to the scheme and a period of notice is now required to give opponents, if any, the opportunity to lodge their objections. A final decision on the school is expected in mid July.

Church faces huge repair bill
St Cuthbert's church is about to undergo major repair work to the East end  following the appearance of cracks in the wall.  A structural engineers' report reveals that some flint work has "delaminated" - in effect come away from the wall to which it was attached.  The work is due to start on July 14th and will take several weeks to complete. It is expected to cost nearly £70,000.
